The 2-2-3 custody schedule is a popular equal-time plan. Over two weeks, each parent receives a mid-week block and one long weekend.
How the rotation works
Week 1 (example): Parent A Mon–Tue, Parent B Wed–Thu, Parent A Fri–Sun. Week 2 flips so Parent B gets the long weekend. Exact start days are flexible—what matters is the 2-2-3 pattern of overnights.
Pros
- Near 50/50 overnights
- Both parents get weekend time
- Children see each parent frequently
Cons
- More exchanges than alternating weeks
- Can be hard if parents live far apart
- Needs clear pickup times to reduce friction
