2-2-3 Custody Schedule: Template, Pros, Cons, and Overnight Split

The 2-2-3 schedule rotates two days, two days, then a three-day weekend. See a free visual template and ~50/50 overnight math.

The 2-2-3 custody schedule is a popular equal-time plan. Over two weeks, each parent receives a mid-week block and one long weekend.

How the rotation works

Week 1 (example): Parent A Mon–Tue, Parent B Wed–Thu, Parent A Fri–Sun. Week 2 flips so Parent B gets the long weekend. Exact start days are flexible—what matters is the 2-2-3 pattern of overnights.

Pros

  • Near 50/50 overnights
  • Both parents get weekend time
  • Children see each parent frequently

Cons

  • More exchanges than alternating weeks
  • Can be hard if parents live far apart
  • Needs clear pickup times to reduce friction
